You should see a doctor for hives in the following conditions
- If they are accompanied by difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat.
- If they last for more than six weeks (chronic hives).
- Additionally, if you have a fever or if the hives appear after taking a new medication, it's best to consult with a doctor.
- If your hives are not causing you any significant discomfort, you can observe them for a day or two before deciding whether or not to see a doctor.
