Poisoning with cantharides, either by their ingestion by the mouth or by absorption from a cantharidal blister The chief symptoms are strangury, burning pain in the urethra, swelling or even gangrene of the genitals, and the passage of bloody and albuminous urine, together with the usual gastrointestinal signs of irritant poisoning if the drug has been taken by the mouth
