A phobia is an anxiety disorder. A person with a phobia will typically have sudden onset of fear and significant distress upon seeing the thing they fear. Phobias are different from normal fear because they interfere with daily life activities and significant distress.
The name of phobia is obtained by combining a Greek or Latin prefix describing phobia and phobia as a suffix.
Phobia Definition
A phobia is an extreme or irrational fear of something, an object, or a situation. The person or phobe develops an excessive fear and they try to avoid things, places, or situation that triggers the fear and panic.
Some people have phobias of things they haven’t even encountered in life like one has fear of snakes but has never seen one in real life. People are often aware that their fear is irrational but they can’t do anything about it. Is diagnosed if the symptoms are persistent for more than 6 years.
