Anaphylaxis is a severe and potentially life-threatening allergic reaction that can be caused by a variety of allergens. Some of the most common causes of anaphylaxis include:
Food allergies: Certain foods, such as peanuts, tree nuts, fish, shellfish, and eggs, are more likely to cause anaphylaxis.
Insect stings: Being stung by certain insects, such as bees, wasps, and hornets, can cause an anaphylactic reaction in some people.
Medications: Certain medications, such as antibiotics and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), can cause an anaphylactic reaction in some people.
Latex: Some people can have a reaction to latex, a rubber-based product that is used in many medical and consumer products.
Exercise: In rare cases, anaphylaxis can be triggered by exercise, especially if the person has eaten certain foods before exercising.
Idiopathic Anaphylaxis: In some cases, the cause of an anaphylactic reaction is unknown.
