Everybody requires to live a minimum number of
calories, is called the Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) that represents the number
of calories you would burn in a day if you were inactive and stayed in bed all
day.
An accurate BMR measurement requires that a
person's sympathetic nervous system is inactive, which means the person must be
completely rested.
Basal metabolism is usually the largest
component of a person's total caloric needs. BMR is also known as your body’s
metabolism; therefore, any increase to your metabolic weight, such as exercise,
will increase your BMR.
BMR aids to know the total amount of food or
calories required to maintain body weight.
BMR is the principal guide for diagnosis and
treatment of thyroid disorders.
